Culture-negative neonatal meningitis and endocarditis caused by Streptococcus agalactiae.
We describe a case of culture-negative meningitis and endocarditis caused by Streptococcus agalactiae in a 27-day-old boy. S. agalactiae was detected in cerebrospinal fluid and serum by broad-spectrum PCR amplification.
متن کاملMeningitis with bilateral acute suppurative otitis media caused by Group A streptococcus.
Group A streptococcal (GAS) invasive disease has become increasingly common in recent years but meningitis caused by GAS is still relatively uncommon(1). Recently, severe and fulminant cases of Group A streptococcal meningitis have been reported(2) but it is rather an uncommon organism causing meningitis beyond neonatal period(3). We report a 10-year-old child with bilateral otitis media leadin...
متن کاملNeonatal meningitis caused by streptococcus pneumonia in Iran
Meningitis, pneumonia, and sepsis in newborns and young infants (age < 60 days) are the main causes of childhood mortality in developing countries. Even though streptococcus pneumonia is the most commonly detected microorganism in pediatric bacterial meningitis, it is rare in newborn infants. The following article reports a case of pneumococcal meningitis that was detected early in a newborn in...
متن کاملNeonatal bacterial meningitis caused by Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus.
This report describes a case of neonatal bacteraemia and meningitis due to Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus. Based on the identification kit results, this species may have been reported as Streptococcus bovis or S. bovis biotype II. The accurate identification of this organism is mandatory for evaluating the aetiology of neonatal meningitis.
متن کاملAcute bacterial meningitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae resistant to the antimicrobian agents and their serotypes.
The main objectives of this study are to evaluate the resistance rates of Streptococcus pneumonia to penicillin G, ceftriaxone and vancomycin in patients with meningitis; to analyze possible risk factors to the antimicrobian resistance; to describe the serotypes detected and to suggest an initial empirical treatment for meningitis. The sensitiveness and serotypes of all isolated S. pneumoniae o...
